  • 3 ways to syncronize for perfect TV sound

If the sound from your Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth speaker is out of sync with the sound from the internal TV speakewrs?

If yes, this may be an annoying issue!

Let me propose 3 possible ways to fix it

Our TosBlue units with a good headset, like the BHX from Telme2, is a great way to stream sound from your TV. The Bluetooth headset becomes a versatile wireless headphone for TV with hi-fi sound.

Our BHX headset is now upgraded to BT Version 4.2 and Our TosBlue units are upgraded to BT Versions 4.0 for excellent sound performance. The sound improvement is most noticable in the bass area.

Both TosBlue-x and TosBlue-Y togeter with our BHX headset have the best aptx technology embedded. This means prictically no sound delay. This is important when watching TV. The illustration below shows a user situation. We now cxall the combination of a BHX headset and a TosBlue unit for a tvSoudCast set.

Note that in order to have no sound delay, both sender (the TosBlue unit) and the receiver must have aptX installed.

    The Challenge:

The challange arises when you use a Bluetooth headset – or Bluetooth speaker – with no aptx technology. This means there will be a delay of several hundred milliseconds. This means that the sound from the internal TV speakers will arrive at your ears earlier than the sound via your headset or bluetooth speakers. If this difference is more than 50 milliseconsds – you will start noticing it.

Therefore, if you are using a  Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth speaker without aptx technology, you will most likely notice sound delay. This means some type of syncronisation improvement may be required.

Here is what you can do about it:

If you have a BT receiver without aptx technology – and the sound delay is more than 50 milliseconds, this delay start to be noticable.

    Here are the recommendations:

    1. Ajust timing of TV sound output port – the Toslink (SPIDIF) .

Most modern TV’s with digital optical (Toslink – SPDIF) output port are also furnished with a feature whereby the timing of the audio output may be adjusted forth and back. The procedure varies from one TV to another. However, here is a general guideline:

On the remote controller, you click on the “MENU” button. Then click “SOUND”. Then go to “SPDIF- DELAY”. You may now find a sliding bar. Draw the handle forth and back until the sound from the internal TV speakers and the sound from Your Bluetooth receiver  – is synchronized.

You may also consult your TV User Guide or talk to your local TV shop for details.

    2. Use only one sound path

Turn the internal TVspeakers completely OFF and only use the Bluetooth headset or the Bluetooth speaker. The sound will now be crear and crisp. However, you may notice that the TV picture and the sound is somewhat out of sync.

    3. Invest is a Bluetooth receiver with best aptx technology

There are Bluetooth speakers and Bluetooth headsets on the market with the best aptx technology embedded. Then you do not have to worry about this issue at all. You are all set. One such alternative is BHX from Telme2.

  • What is aptX™ Low Latency—and why does it matter to you?

aptX™ Low Latency reduces delay and gives you high quality, synchronised, lip synced sound when you are watching TV, or gaming with a wireless headset.

Qualcomm® has developed various types of aptX™. The fastest one is aptX™ Low Latency, which has a delay of only 40 ms end to end. This is the one Telme2 is has applied in both our TosBlue transmitters and BHX headsets.

When we have two parallel transmission channels, it is important that they are synchronized, i. e. that the sound output from both channels arrives at the receiving end the same time. Most of us can accept a difference of up to 50 ms (milliseconds) delay between the two channels without noticing any problem. So when the sound arrives within a “window” of 50 ms, we may say that the two channels are in sync. If it is more – like 100 ms – we start noticing the delay.

    Example:

Let’s say two persons are watching TV. Person 1 uses a headset and person 2 is listening to the internal TV speakers.:

    1. If person 1 is using a Telme2 BHX headset, then there will be practically no “latency time” – i.e. the the two sound outputs will be in sync. Everything is fine.

    2. Now, you may wonder why person 1 is using a headset. If she is hard of hearing she may adjust the sound louder in her headset. Person 2 may listen to the TV sound from the internal speakers at a low pleasent level for her. If a headset without aptX Low Latency is used, a noticeable delay will occur. How annoing this is, may depend on the following:

    – If the headset has good passive noise reduction, then the sound from the speakers may hardly be heard inside the headset – then it is almost OK.  The lesser problem is that the sound and picture is not quite in sync.

    More about aptX here: www.aptX.com

    So what is “latency time”:

“Latency time” is the time it takes from signal input to signal output of an electronic device. It is also referred to as “throughput time” of a device. As an example, our TosBlue units receives optical digital signals—also referred to as SPDIF or Toslink signals—from the TV. The unit converts these signals into electrical signals and further into wireless Bluetooth transmission signals.

This process takes some time, referred to as “conversion time” or “latency”.

    Then, what is aptX™:

aptX™ is an advanced audio compression algorithm. The technology is used in the signal conversion process and is done in hardware, as opposed to software, which is slower. Telme2 is using the fastest available latency aptX technology. (35 ms)

So why is aptx with low latency so important?

In most cases latency is NOT important. If you are transmitting sound from your smartphone, tablet or PC to our BHX headset – low latency is not important at all. The reason being that the sound path will not be synchronized with another sound path or visual path. So any delay will not be noticed.

When you use the TosBlue units connected to your TV, then synchronization of sound and picture are important.

    Let me explain:

The TosBlue unit is transmitting sound from your TV to a bluetooth headset. If the TosBlue unit and/or headset did not use aptX technology – the sound would be delayed in the software conversion process in both units. The result would have been sound delay. If the delay is considerable, you may also notice that the sound in the headset is not in sync with the moving Picture in Your TV.

NOTE also: On many new TV’s you may adjust the output timing on the Toslink output port. Then you may adjust until the timing.. In best case you may be able to compensate for most of the delay and a headsdet without aptX may be used without any timing problems.

However, we recommend to use Telme2’s BHX Hi-Fi  stereo headset with best aptX included. Then no adjustment is required. With the headset upgarded to BlueTooth 4.2, you will be able to enjoy fantastic sound with no delay.

  • tvSoundCast – Does It Perform Better Than Soundbars?

First, what is tvSoundCast from Telme2?

Simply explained, it is a TosBlue unit transmitting TV sound via Bluetooth to Telme2’s BHX headset.

Can it perform better than Soundbars?  Yes and No. It depends …

    Read more to find out.

The TosBlue unit and the BHX headset is specally matched with the best aptX technology for

    • Super stero sound

    and

    • No sound delay

We name this unique combination: tvSoundCast

Soundbars are used to improve TV sound. In modern flat panel TV’s there are not much space for good speakers. So many of us add soundbars for added sound. They work well, especially the expensive ones. With a Soundbar you fill the entire room with sound. That’s their purpose.

    But remember this:

Sound for me can sometimes be noise for you!

    So the options are:

    • Turn down the sound Level!

    or

    • Leave the room ….. really?

But, do you realize that even if the Soundbar transmits the sound in stereo ……

    • you will not hear the stereo effect.

The reason for this fact is explained in a separate blog post. (Published soon)

So what are the advantages of our tvSoundCast?

    • The TV sound is sent to you – only

    • You adjust the sound level to the most pleasant level for you

    • You receive Crystal Clear sound in stereo via the BHX headset

    • You do not disturb anybody else in the room

  • Why is the Stereo Sound From Your TV Missing?

Your TV speakers sends out stereo sound …. so why can’t you hear the stereo effect where you normally sit in front of your TV ? Because you can’t!

Does it surprice you to read this? If so, you are not alone!

Even with a good Soundbar – with super sound – you are most likely missing out of the enjoying stereo effect. How come?

Remember, the good old days you had the big speakers lined up in the corners of your living room. Perhaps you still have them…

So why did you put them in the corner of the room? That’s right … so you could enjoy the stereo sound.

    Let me explan …

Let’s say that the stereo spekers in Your new flat panel TV is 1 meter apart. You now put your listening head 1 meter apart from each of the two speakers. Your head and the two spekers make up the corners in a triangle with equal sides. This means that your listening head is about 0,86 meters in front of your TV.

At this distance – or closer – you can hear the great sound in stereo. But the question is:

Would you watch TV this Close? Probably not.

As you move away from your TV screen to have the best view, the stereo effect fades away.. So when you are 3 – 4 meters away, the stereo sound is totally gone!

The reason: The angle to the the two speakers becomes too narrow, so your brain is no longer able to process the stereo effect.

So to maintan the stereo effect, Telme2’s tvSoundCast is a good solution.

Test it out – and hear for yourself!

  • This Is How the TosBlue Unit Works

TosBlue units from Telme2 are Bluetooth transmitters converting optical SPDIF signals from your TV into wireless stereo Bluetooth signals sent to a Bluetooth receiver….. a Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth speaker.

TosBlue units are Bluetooth transmitters converting SPDIF signals from the TV  into wireless Bluetoth to be intercepted by a Bluetooth audio receiver and gives you superb stereo sound from your TV. Below is a brief description how the unit works with a good Bluetooth headset. It is easy ….. unique – inexpensive ….. and it works!

  • 13 Useful Trouble Shooting Tips you May try!

If you should encounter trouble while installing a TosBlue unit from Telme2, please read the suggestions below. You may find the solution to your trouble.

The best of luck to you!

    I

Top of the TosBlue unit must be visible from the front

Make sure that the TosBlue unit is mounted so that top of the unit is visible from the front. This is to ensure best possible transmission quality.

No sharp bend on Optical cable

Sharp bends may reduce the sound quality, or or in worst case, cut the sound transmission all together.

    USB power problem

    • If your TV has no USB outlet, you are recommended to use a separate USB power adapter.
    • If LED is not flashing when power is turned ON – the reason may be bad connection via the USB cable connector.

    Try this:

    1. Insert and pull it out again the USB plug a few times in both ends to improve the electrical connection.
    2. Try another USB source, for example USB from your PC or a separate USB adapter.

    Pairing procedure

The normal pairing procedure is as follows:

When you apply power to the TosBlues unit, the red and blue lights should be flashing rapidly. This indicates that the unit is in “Bluetooth search mode”, looking for a device to pair (interconnect) with. After 2 – 3 minutes, the light will be dimmed down, but the unit is still in the same mode. When paired, the blue light will slowly be fading in and out.

To enable pairing of the receiving Bluetooth device – a Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth speaker – you normally press the ON button a few seconds extra. (Please consult your User Guide of the device). The BT receiving unit will go into “Bluetooth search mode” as well, and the two units – sender and receiver – will pair.  The next time TosBlue-X or X2 is turned on, it will automatically look for the last used receiver, and you need only turn the power ON – and the two devices will interconnect automatically.

Please note that the pairing procedure for TosBlue-X and Tosblue-X2 (for 2 headsets) are slightly different. Please read the User Guide carefully.

    NOTE:

If pairing with wireless speaker unit – make sure it is a Bluetooth unit and not a Wi-Fi unit!

    Pairing Problems

    Important NOTE:

    • Some newer TV’s are equipped with a Bluettoth sender. Try to turn it OFF or pair it with some Bluettoth receiver.
    • Make sure that there are no other active and not paired Bluetooth sender around you.

If you have problems shutting off the Bluetooth sender in your TV, you may follow the procedure suggested under NOTE VI.

    Suggested sequence:

    • Set your Bluetooth receiver (headset) in pairing mode.
    • Thereafter turn ON your TV with the TosBlue unit. They should then pair.

NOTE l – Problems connecting the second headsets to TosBlue-X2 for the first time:

    • Set the first headset in pairing mode
    • Turn ON your TV with the TosBlue-X2 unit. The first headset should now pair
    • Turn OFF the first headset
    • Turn OFF your TV with the TosBlue-X2 unit
    • Set the second headset in Pairing mode
    • Turn ON your TV with the TosBlue-x2 unit. The second headset should now pair
    • Turn ON your first headset. It should now connect. Both headsets should now be connected.

NOTE ll    IF you cannot turn the Bkuetooth sender in your TV OFF – try this:

Power up the TosBlue unit from another USB source. For example try connecting the USB cable to your PC. Then pair with your BT receiver. After pairing, you can move the TosBlue unit back to your TV.

NOTE lll – Unlock software hangup_

If the pairing process is blocked, it may be caused by a “hang-up” in the software of the TosBlue unit: Try this to unlock the software:

    • Apply power to the TosBlue unit via the USB cable.
    • Wait until the unit is in “standby mode” indicated by the red and blue light flashing slowly.
    • Then insert the 3,5 mm plug (on the audio cable) quickly, wait a second, then pull it quickly out again.
    • Wait a second and repeat the sequence onece more.

You will now see the blue and red light flashing quickly – indicating the unit is reset and set in pairng mode again.

Finally, if you some other time uses a new Bluetooth receiver you may have to do this procedure over again!

NOTE lV – Unlock software hang-up in BHX headset

If the BHX can not pair – it may be caused by a “hang-up” in the headset software. Please try this:

Press and hold the Power ON button and the “ ” (Volume down ) button at the same time for about 8 seconds, and until you see the red and blue light flashing once.

    NOTE V –  Password request

If requested for a password, please ingnore the request. TosBlue has built in default passwords like 0000, 1111 …… 8888.

If no sound – or distorted sound

If no sound is received after powered up and paired, the reason might be:

    1. If no caps were protecting the ends of the optical cable when installing, then blow gently at both ends of the  optical cable connectors to remove possible dust. Dust may reduce or block the transmission.
    2. Make sure the optical cable is well seated – connected – in both ends. Sometimes, this may be tricky. If so, try this:
      1. Turn the cable connector 180 degree.
      2. Turn the cable around, exchanging the ends.
    3. If no Toslink (DPDIF) signal from your TV is the problem. Try output from another TV.
    4. TosBlue units only accept PCM format of the optical output signal from your TV  (SPDIF Toslink signal). Not Dolby. If the signal is in Dolby format, then noise or a clicking sound will be heard.
NOTE: On most TVs, you may select the output format. Please check your TV User Guide and swith to PCM.
    5. If your TV does not have a Toslink output port (SPDIF), then you may use the 3,5 mm “line input” to connect to the TosBlue unit (audio cable is included).

    Finally, please study carefully the:

If none of these suggestions seems to work …. Please send us a mail,  and we will try our best to help.

Good luck and thanks for your cooperation.

  • How To Pair Bluetooth Devices – a Useful Outline!

A Bluetooth connection between sender and receiver is like an imaginary wire. It is a one-to-one connection.

Many Bluetooth connections can be active in the same room at the same time. The transmission range is about 10 meters in free air.

You may have several active Bluetooth devices simultaneously in the same room, in the same way as you have many imaginary wires from one unit to another in the same room.

Please note: This is a general guideline and most Bluetooth devices will work like outlined below. Unfortunately, there are exceptions!

    What is “pairing seach mode”

Let us take an example: If you want to interconnect your mobile phone with a Bluetooth headset you activate Bluetooth on your phone. Then set your phone in “Pairing search mode”. In this mode your mobile phone will look for active Bluetooth devices inside the sphere of about 10 meters and list of available devices will be displayed on the screen. If more than one device is available – you may select which one to pair with.

    Pairing for the first time

In order to interconnect a Bluetooth sender to a Bluetooth receiver for the first time – to pair the two devices – you have to set both the sender and the receiver in “pairing search mode”. Both will now look for an available unit to pair with. Most common procedure is that you press the ON/OFF button for a few seconds extra. (Please also consult the operation Guide for the devices for details as this procedure may vary from device to device). After a few seconds the sender and the receiver will be paired (interconnected), and information (sound) can be transmitted from the sender to the connected receiver.

    Interconnect the next times

The next time(s) you want to interconnect the two devices – you simply have to turn power ON. The two devices remember each other – and they will automatically interconnect.

More Bluetooth devices in the same room

You may have several active Bluetooth devices in the same room. Once a connection between a Bluetooth sender and a Bluetooth receiver has been established, this connection will not be affected by other Bluetooth devices, and more Bluetooth devices may be activated.

How to connect several Bluetooth devices in the same room

    • First you have to determine which devices you want to interconnect.
    • If a sender and a receiver have been paired before – you just turn ON power of both devices. They will automatically interconnect.
    • If you want the sender to connect with a new receiver – you have to make sure the previous receiver paired with is turned OFF – or the Bluetooth is inactive – or outside communication reach (10 – 12 meters). Then you set both sender and receiver in “paring search mode”, and they will pair (interconnect).
    • If two senders are active in “pairing search mode”, the receiver will pair with the transmitter last used.
    • If you have not previously paired with any of the senders – it is random which one your will pair with.

Please note this exception: TosBlue-x2 can connect with two BT receivers (two BT headsets) at the same time. Please study the procedure how to connect both receivers to the TosBlue-X2 at the same time.
